Earth Day Activities
In 2021 Earth Day is on Thursday, April 22 and it’s a great day to stop and celebrate all things planet Earth. Here are some super fun Earth Day Activities to spend time outdoors and become one with nature!
Earth Day Activities for Students
Grow plants from seeds
Have your students grow plants from seeds which can be very rewarding. Choose plants that grow quickly to help keep their attention. Many only require minimum attention like watering and feeding. Some to consider include snap peas, sunflowers, radishes and marigolds. For a plant to keep and maintain all year, the Heartleaf Philodendrons aren’t hard to love, with their stunning heart-shaped leaves, rapid growth, and easy care requirements.
Make a milk jug bird feeder
Here is a great craft idea. KSAT12 Meteorologist Kaiti Blake shows you how your little one can make a milk jug bird feeder and decorate it using what you have at home. The demonstration is courtesy of greatstems.com.
Outdoor Earth Day activities
Pick up trash while walking in nature
This is a fun and easy thing you can do for Earth Day with your kids. It can be a great way to help clean up your neighborhood and help the environment. Weather permitting it gets the kids out for some fresh air and exercise!
For preschoolers give them a bucket of water and a paintbrush, or for less mess give them colored chalk, and let them color away on bricks or sidewalks. Hopscotch anyone?
Do a nature scavenger hunt with your kids
Another thing you can do to appreciate the great outdoors is to go on a scavenger hunt. Create a list of things found in nature and see how many they can find! Some things you can have your child look for can include a feather, a flower, a smooth rock, a spider web or even a Dandelion!
